Functional Description

IS200JPDSG1A is a 28 V Power Distribution Board manufactured and designed by General Electric. It is a part of the Mark VIe Series used in distributed control systems. The 28 V Power Distribution (JPDS) board provides the control system with 28 V dc input power from external ac/dc or dc/dc converters. JPDS incorporates feedback from the PPDA I/O pack into the PDM system.

Comapatibility

  • The JPDB, JPDF, and JPDE feedback signal P1/P2 connections on the board can be connected to create a PPDA I/O pack.
  • This I/O pack is compatible with the DC-62 connector on JPDS.

Installation

The board is designed to be installed conveniently in a metal holder that fits onto a vertical DIN-rail, typically positioned alongside other power distribution boards. Optionally, the JPDS is also available with a specific metal holder tailored for direct mounting.

Grounding

  • This board features a 50-pin diagnostic connector located on both the top and bottom sections. Grounding for the board is established through the sheet metal bracket, connecting it to the underlying back base, commonly the system FE (Functional Earth).

Physical arrangement

  • Regarding its physical arrangement, the JPDS board accepts power from cables and effectively distributes it to the JR, JS, and JT connectors. When hosting a PPDA I/O pack, the JPDS is ideally mounted to ensure clear visibility of indicator lights on the pack. If two JPDS boards are used together, they should be positioned for easy accessibility to any terminal board connections. However, the precise location of the JPDS within a panel is not crucial.
  • Connectors P1 and P2 play crucial roles in transmitting feedback signals: P1 transmits feedback signals to a board hosting a PPDA I/O pack, while P2 receives feedback from other power distribution boards and routes these signals out of P1 to the PPDA. When planning a feedback cable connection from JPDS P2 to another power distribution board, thoughtful consideration should be given to the routing of the feedback cable.

Application Notes

  • Internally, the wiring allows for the maintenance of either three independent 28 V DC power buses or the consolidation of all three into a single internal bus. Each individual bus is designed to handle up to 25A, sharing a common ground rated for 75A. Operating R, S, and T controllers along with their I/O from separate power supplies is achievable with three supplies, wherein the failure of one supply impacts only one controller and its I/O without affecting the other two channels.
  • To ensure uninterrupted power system feedback in case of channel power failure, there is a dedicated 28 V diode-OR power output specifically for the PPDA I/O pack. Alternatively, the board offers a configuration involving jumpers between the R, S, and T 28 V bus connection screws on TB1 and TB2, establishing a single highly reliable source of 28 V power.
  • Additionally, screw terminals can be utilized to parallel the power buses from two adjacent JPDS boards, offering features such as control rack outputs for Duplex or TMR applications, increased JPDP outputs, and the ability to provide supply redundancy for separated R, S, and T power through two input power supplies on each bus.
  • In select applications, a battery bus can serve as a power backup. Utilizing a grounded battery system as an input to this board necessitates additional diodes external to the JPDS to ensure isolation between the battery and internal bus.

Operation

The power distribution board, or JPDS, is what transfers 28 V dc power from the chosen power sources to the JPDP boards (for powering the I/O packs) and control racks. JR, JS, and JT connectors are used to provide the conventional 28 V power input to JPDS.

  • JR, JS, and JT are three 28 V power input connectors. There are two positive connections and three negative connections on the power supply connectors. Three power supply health inputs with two dry contact inputs for each power source are also present; these signals serve as diagnostic signals.
  • J1, J2, J3, J4, J5, and J6 six-pin connections provide six outputs to JPDP cards (3x2 Mate-N-Lok). The pin assignments on this connector match those of JPDP exactly. To supply the I/O packs, JPDS can be directly connected to up to six JPDL boards.
  • Each of the three outputs JAR, JAS, and JAT has a common-mode choke for noise reduction and a positive temperature coefficient fuse for current limiting.
  • Utilizing separate screw terminals on TB1 and TB2, the internal 28 V bus is reachable at the top and bottom of the board. The maximum continuous current capacity for the screw terminals for R, S, and T is 35 A. You can connect boards together using these terminals. For ground, a 75 A screw terminal is specified.
  • PPDA power diagnostic I/O pack DC-62 connection. The 50-pin diagnostic ribbon cable connecting JPDS to the PPDA allows the PPDA to monitor JPDS as well as up to five additional power distribution boards.
