IS200SSCAH2AGD is a Serial Communication I/O Terminal Board manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of Mark VI series. The Simplex Serial Communication Input/Output (SSCA) terminal board is a small serial communication board with up to six communication channels. Each channel can be set to send RS-232C, RS-485, or RS-422 signals. The PSCA I/O pack is compatible with the SSCA. The I/O pack connects to the controller via Ethernet and plugs into the DC-37 pin connector.
IS200SSCAH2AGD Installation
- A sheet metal carrier and a plastic insulator mount are used to mount the SSCA board on a DIN-rail. This assembly is also designed to bolt directly into a cabinet.
- SSCAH2 has a 48-terminal right-angle header that accepts a variety of commercially available pluggable terminal blocks.
- SSCA typically employs #18 AWG (shielded twisted pair) wiring. The external mounting bracket for the I/O cable shield is supplied by the customer or by GE. E1 and E2 serve as mounting holes for the chassis ground connection. A shield ground must be connected to one of the SCOM terminals (37-48).
IS200SSCAH2AGD Operation
- Each of the six serial communication channels has six connection points on the SSCA terminal board. Four signal lines A-D, a signal return, and a shield common are among the points (SCOM).
- The RET terminal is used for RS-232C return. All six serial communication channels' signals are arranged in the same order. When looking through the box terminals, the signal order is SCOM, A, B, C, D, Ret, from left to right. A serial channel's six signal groups are assigned to terminals next to each other.
- From left to right, the channels are five, four, and one when looking at the bottom set of terminals. Channels six, three, and two are located on the top set of terminals, viewed from left to right.
- When using RS-422 or RS-485, a termination resistor must be provided at either end of a transmission line.
- For each pair of signal lines, SSCA provides selectable termination resistors. JP1A and JP1B toggle the termination resistors between signals A-B and C-D.
- For each serial communication channel, the same function is performed.
- The jumper is set to disconnect the termination resistor by default. The relationship between the termination jumpers and the serial communication channel signals is clearly marked on the SSCA.
Characteristics
- Number of channels - Six channels
- Maximum drops in RS-422 or RS-485 systems Eight drops maximum
- Size - 15.9 cm high x 10.2 cm wide
- Technology - Surface-mount
- Temperature Operating: -30 to 65 degrees Celsius
Diagnostics
- The PSCA I/O pack interrogates the JA connector on the terminal board, which has its own ID device.
- The ID device is a read-only chip that contains the serial number of the terminal board, board type, revision number, and J connector location. When the I/O processor reads this chip and finds a mismatch, a hardware incompatibility fault is generated.
Configuration
Jumpers are used to configure the terminal board. Refer to the operation section for the location of these jumpers. The available jumpers are as follows:
- For the six serial communication channels, jumpers JP1A through JP6A apply or remove termination resistors between signal lines A and B.
- For the six serial communication channels, jumpers JP1B through JP6B apply or remove termination resistors between signal lines C and D.
- Jumpers JP1R through JP6R determine whether the return is resistive or capacitive to SCOM.
Features
- A single cable connector with 37 (female) connections occupies one long edge of the board. To the right of this component is the board's single integrated circuit (U1). This is a read-only memory chip. The board has a single 48-position terminal block on the opposite edge.
- On either side of the terminal block, two drilled holes with conductive material around their circumference are placed. They function as terminal connectors. Two additional (larger) round cutouts are located on the board's short edges. These are intended to make mounting the board easier.
