Functional Description
IS200SRTDH2D is a Simplex RTD Terminal Board developed by GE. It is a part of Mark VIe control system. The board is designed for both DIN-rail and flat mounting. This design allows for easy integration into a variety of industrial and commercial environments. The board features eight RTD inputs, enabling the connection of multiple RTD sensors simultaneously. These sensors are crucial for precise temperature measurement and control in various applications.
Features
- Interfaces seamlessly with the PRTD or VRTD I/O processors, which handle the data acquisition and processing tasks. This connection ensures that temperature data collected by the RTD sensors is accurately processed and relayed to the system for monitoring and control purposes.
- High-density Euro-block type terminal blocks are utilized on the board, providing secure and reliable connections for the RTD sensors. These terminal blocks are designed for ease of use, allowing for quick and straightforward installation and maintenance.
- An important feature of the board is the on-board identification (ID) chip. This chip plays a critical role in system diagnostics by identifying the board to the I/O processor. The ID chip ensures that the system can automatically recognize and verify the board, facilitating efficient troubleshooting and maintenance operations.
Operation
- The SRTD terminal board is designed to provide precise and reliable temperature measurements by supplying a 10 mA DC multiplexed excitation current to each connected RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector). This current is not continuous but is multiplexed, meaning it is sequentially supplied to each RTD sensor in turn. This approach helps to minimize power consumption and reduce the potential for self-heating of the RTD, which can affect measurement accuracy.
- The board is compatible with both grounded and ungrounded RTDs, offering flexibility in sensor selection and installation. Grounded RTDs have their sensing element connected to the sensor case, which can provide quicker response times. Ungrounded RTDs have isolated sensing elements, reducing the risk of electrical interference.
- One of the key features of the SRTD board is its capability to support sensors located up to 300 meters (984 feet) away from the turbine control cabinet. This allows for significant flexibility in sensor placement, enabling the monitoring of temperatures at remote or hard-to-reach locations. The system can accommodate a maximum two-way cable resistance of 15 Ω, ensuring accurate readings despite the distance.
- To ensure the integrity of the temperature measurements, the board incorporates onboard noise suppression mechanisms. These are similar to those found on the TRTD (Terminal Resistance Temperature Detector) board, providing robust protection against electrical noise and interference. This feature is crucial in industrial environments where electromagnetic interference (EMI) from other equipment can be a significant issue.
Installation
- The SRTD and a plastic insulator are mounted on a sheet metal carrier, which is designed to attach to a DIN rail. Alternatively, the SRTD and insulator can be mounted on a sheet metal assembly that bolts directly to a cabinet for more permanent installations.
- The board supports eight RTDs, which are wired directly to a Euro-style box terminal block featuring 36 terminals. There are two types of terminal blocks available to accommodate different configurations. For wiring, #18 AWG shielded twisted triplet cables are typically used to maintain signal integrity.
- An I/O cable shield terminal can be mounted using an external bracket, which can either be provided by GE or supplied by the customer. For enhanced grounding, the E1 and E2 mounting holes serve as chassis ground screw connections, labeled as SCOM. Note that terminals 25 through 34 are not connected in this setup.
- This arrangement allows for flexibility in installation while ensuring secure grounding and proper shielding, which are essential for maintaining accuracy and reliability in temperature readings.
