IC697MEM717 is a CMOS Expansion Memory developed by GE. It is a high-performance CMOS Expansion Memory (PCM) designed by GE to enhance the functionality of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in industrial automation. This module is ideal for tasks requiring additional processing power, data management, and communication capabilities. Equipped with advanced features, it efficiently handles data acquisition, storage, and communication functions within PLC systems, making it a versatile choice for complex industrial applications.
The Module enhances the functionality of PLC systems by performing data storage, data acquisition, and communication tasks independently. It connects directly to the PLC CPU via the backplane, enabling seamless access to both user and system data using the MegaBasic language. Multiple PCMs can be installed within a single IC697 PLC system, and each PCM can accommodate expansion memory of up to 512 KB, further boosting the system's data-handling capacity.
It can operate with or without an expansion memory daughter board. The onboard base memory provides up to 96 KB of user memory, while the expansion memory allows for additional storage options of 64, 128, 256, or 512 KB. The battery on the base board supports the expanded memory, preserving data in the event of a power outage.
Programming and configuring requires compatible PCM Development Software installed on an IC647, IC640, or IBM-compatible PC. The software enables users to configure serial port parameters, interface definitions with the PLC CPU, and task functions, along with programming MegaBasic applications. The default communication speed is set to 19,200 bps, and the module can be configured using either MS-DOS® or Windows®-based software.
It does not rely on physical switches or jumpers for user configuration. Instead, all configuration tasks are completed through the PCM Development Software, streamlining the setup process and minimizing manual adjustments.
The PCM includes three status LEDs to assist with operational monitoring. The top LED indicates the module’s overall condition, while the lower two LEDs can be assigned custom functions based on the specific application requirements.
The module has a single pushbutton control. Holding the button for under five seconds restarts the application, while holding it for over five seconds resets the module to its factory default configuration. This action enables communication with the programmer using default settings without clearing the module's memory.
