Installation

  • Ensure Power Is Off: Before installing, ensure that the rack power is off to avoid any electrical hazards or damage to the module during installation.
  • Install in Rack: Install the module into the appropriate slot within the PLC rack. Proper placement within the rack ensures proper communication between the module and the rest of the control system.
  • Power On: After installation, turn the power back on. The module will begin its power-up sequence. The top LED will blink for approximately 5 seconds during diagnostics.
  • When the diagnostics are complete, the LED will remain lit, signaling that the module is operational.
  • LED Indicators:
    • Middle LED: This LED lights up when a valid configuration has been received from the CPU, confirming that the I/O bus operation has been verified.
    • Bottom LED: This LED remains OFF under all conditions and does not indicate any active status.

Removing the Module

  • Grasp the Board Firmly: Hold the module firmly at the top and bottom of the board cover. Use your thumbs to press on the front of the cover and your fingers on the plastic clips at the back.
  • Disengage Rack Clips: Squeeze the rack clips to disengage them from the rail. This action will loosen the board and allow you to remove it from the backplane connector.
  • Slide and Remove: Slide the board along the card guide and remove it completely from the rack, ensuring no damage to the connectors or the module itself.

Upon power-up, the module has no predefined baud rate or serial bus address. These parameters are set by the MS-DOS or Windows programming software configurator. By default, the baud rate is set to 153.6K baud, supporting IC66 I/O buses up to 2000 feet in length. The serial bus address is typically set to 31. Once a valid configuration is stored, the PLC CPU will transfer the baud rate and bus address settings to the module, ensuring consistent configuration each time the module is powered on.
