FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:

IC220ALG320 is a 16-Bit Channel Voltage/Current Analog Output Module manufactured and designed by GE Mark 90-70 Series as part of the GE Speedtronic Gas Turbine Control Systems. VersaPoints modular construction is easily adaptable to scores of applications. It accommodates a series of discrete and analog I/O modules with densities from 1 to 16 points. VersaPoint also supports a host of specialized modules, from RTD and Thermocouple inputs to positioning and counter modules, in effect combining intelligent automation with the simplicity of terminal technology. The module is used to output analog voltage or current signals. The signals are available with a 16-bit resolution.

FEATURES OF ANALOG OUTPUT MODULE:

  • There is one analog signal output to connect either voltage or current signals. Only one output must be used on the module.
  • Actuator connection (using 2-wire technology and shield connection)
  • Two current ranges, one voltage range: 0mA to 20mA, 4mA to 20mA, 0V to 10V
  • Process data update, including conversion time of the digital/analog converter < 1 ms

POWER LOSSES FOR I/O MODULES:

  • Power Loss of the Electronics: The electronics power loss of an I/O module can be calculated following the formula in the module's datasheet. The power loss of the module must not exceed the power loss of the housing.
  • Power Loss of the Housing: The power loss of the housing indicates the maximum power loss allowed. The maximum power loss is indicated in the modules datasheet. This power loss can be dependent or independent of the ambient temperature. If the power loss of the housing depends on the ambient temperature, a permissible operating temperature range can be calculated using the formula in the module's datasheet.
  • Permissible Operating Temperature Range: Depending on the power loss of the housing and the power loss of the electronics at a certain current, the temperature up to which the module can be operated with this current can be calculated.

CONNECTIONS OF ANALOG OUTPUT MODULE:

Connect the sensors using shielded, twisted-pair cables. Connect one end of the shielding to the protective earth ground (PE). At the module, fold the outer cable sheath back and connect the shield to the module via the shield connector clamp. The clamp connects the shield directly to the FE (functional earth ground) on the module side. When using cables longer than 10 m (32.8 ft.) in environments with heavy noise, connect the shield through an RC element to the FE potential of the actuator. Typically, the capacitor C should be rated between 1 and 15nF. The resistor R should be at least 10 ohms. Use a connector with the shield connection from the Terminal Strip Set (IC229TBK203) when installing the actuator. On the side of the module not used to connect an actuator, use the non-shielded connector included in the Terminal Strip Set.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What is a 16-bit analog output module?

A 16-bit analog output module provides high-resolution output signals (voltage or current) from a digital controller or PLC to control external devices such as actuators or transducers. The 16-bit resolution allows for fine signal granularity.

What types of output signals does the module support?

The module typically supports both voltage (0–10V, ±10V) and current (0–20mA, 4–20mA) output signals. The selection is often configurable via software or hardware settings.

How is the power loss of the module calculated?

Power loss of the electronics can be calculated using the formula provided in the module's datasheet. This includes both static and dynamic losses, depending on signal type and load.
