Functional Description

DS200EXPSG1ACD is a bulk power supply board developed by GE. It is a part of EX2000 excitation system. The EXPS serves a role in ensuring the proper measurement of both AC and DC input power within a system. Additionally, it incorporates a critical current-limiting feature when powered by the station battery, enhancing safety and preventing potential damage to equipment.

Features

  • Functionality in Power Measurement: One of the primary functions is to generate and provide the necessary signals for accurately measuring both AC and DC input power within the system. This ensures that the system receives precise data regarding power consumption and distribution, enabling effective monitoring and control.
  • Current Limiting Action: It is powered by the station battery, it activates a current-limiting mechanism. This feature is essential for preventing excessive current flow that could lead to equipment damage or system instability. By regulating the current, it ensures the safe and reliable operation of the system, even under varying power supply conditions.
  • Safety Precautions: It's crucial to adhere to strict safety protocols when handling components connected. To prevent equipment damage or potential hazards, it's advised not to remove boards or make connections while power is applied to the system. This precautionary measure helps safeguard against accidental short circuits, voltage spikes, or other unforeseen events that could compromise the integrity of the system or cause damage to its components.

Board Replacement Procedure

  • Turn Off Power: Before beginning the replacement process, ensure that power to the system is completely turned off to prevent any risk of electric shock or damage to components.
  • Remove Bulk Power Supply: In order to access and replace the board, the entire bulk power supply must be removed. Prior to removal, verify that there is zero potential at all connections of the power supply assembly.
  • Carefully disconnect the following connectors: Unplug lFTB, 1TB thru 8TB, DCTB, VM2A, and VM2B connectors as required. Remove the black and white wires in CPS PTBl and PTB2 terminal board.
  • Remove Power Supply Assembly: Loosen the four mounting screws securing the power supply assembly and carefully lift it out of the cabinet. Ensure that the ACPL connector remains connected and is not removed.
  • Prepare Power Supply Assembly: Take the power supply assembly to a workbench and remove the four screws holding the plastic protective cover. Unplug DCPL, 3GDPL, and 4GDPL from the board.
  • Replace Board: Remove the old board and replace it with the new EXPS board. Ensure that JPl on the replacement board is set in the exact position as on the old board being replaced.
  • Reconnect Connectors: Reconnect the connectors that were removed in step 3. Reinstall the plastic protective cover and secure it with screws.
  • Reinstall Power Supply Assembly: Place the power supply assembly back into the cabinet and secure it with the mounting screws. Reconnect the connectors removed in step 3, ensuring that cables are properly seated and labeled correctly according to the markings on the board.
