System Features

• The goal of Mark IV is to increase the mean time before a turbine forced outage is caused by the control by tenfold, which is accomplished with distributed microprocessors.
• When one of the electronic sections fails, the turbine continues to run under the control of the remaining sections. While the gas turbine is running, the failed section is diagnosed, repaired, and returned to service.
• The system's fault tolerance is thus restored to its original level. Manufacturing cost and panel size were designed constraints. Because the computing power required was greatly increased when compared to a non-redundant control, it was critical to find a new approach to lowering manufacturing costs.
• This was achieved by meticulously modularizing the hardware so that a single basic control panel could cover all turbine types and applications.
