Functional Description
IS230TVBAH2A is a Vibration Input Assembly manufactured by General Electric. It is a part of Mark VIe control system. It serves as a signal interface board for the PVIB I/O pack, enabling the monitoring and processing of vibration signals from various industrial sensors. This terminal board ensures reliable performance and safety of turbines and rotating machinery by providing accurate vibration data for condition monitoring and fault detection.
Features
- To ensure accurate signal transmission, the TVBA features built-in electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection and signal suppression. This prevents electrical noise from distorting sensor readings, making the module highly reliable even in harsh industrial environments where electromagnetic interference is common.
- The TVBA incorporates a pull-up bias mechanism to detect open circuits in sensor connections. This feature enhances fault detection and diagnostics, allowing for early identification of sensor failures or disconnections. Such a capability ensures continuous and uninterrupted vibration monitoring.
- All sensor signals are transmitted to the Mark VIe I/O packs using a 37-pin connector. This high-speed interface ensures reliable and secure communication between the vibration input assembly and the control system, enabling fast and precise data processing.
- The TVBA supports both simplex and TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy) configurations. In TMR mode, vibration signals are distributed to three I/O packs, ensuring fault tolerance and system reliability in critical applications such as power plants and industrial machinery.
Installation
- The Vibration Input Assembly is designed for easy integration into the Mark VIe control system. It is installed using two I/O terminal blocks, each secured with two screws, providing a stable and secure connection. The terminal blocks include 24 terminals capable of accepting #12 AWG wires, ensuring a reliable electrical connection for vibration sensors. Additionally, a shield termination attachment point is located near each terminal block to reduce electrical noise and interference.
- During installation, 14 sensor inputs are wired directly to the terminal blocks. Channels 1–8 support Proximitors, Seismic Sensors, Velomitors, and Accelerometers, while Channels 9–12 support only Proximitors. Channel 13 is dedicated to Proximitors or Keyphasor proximity sensors. Each channel is equipped with a current-limited -24V power supply, ensuring stable operation. Jumpers JPxA, JPxB, and JPxC allow for customized configuration of open circuit checks, signal outputs, and differential input settings.
- The TVBA module is connected to the Mark VIe I/O packs via a 37-pin connector, facilitating seamless data transmission. It can be configured for both simplex and TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy) applications, making it suitable for high-reliability environments such as power plants and industrial facilities. Additionally, the WNPS power supply board converts +28V to -28V, ensuring consistent voltage delivery for all connected sensors.
Supports Multiple Sensor Types
- Seismic Sensors (Velocity Sensors) – For detecting structural vibrations
- Proximitors (Displacement Sensors) – For monitoring shaft position and movement
- Velomitors (Velocity Transducers) – For measuring vibration velocity
- Accelerometers – For high-frequency vibration detection (supported on Channels 1, 2, and 3 only)
By accommodating different sensor types, the TVBA ensures that a wide range of vibration signals can be efficiently captured and analyzed.
