FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:

IS230STCI2ASTCI2AH01 is a Simplex Contact Input Terminal Board manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the Mark VIe Series used in GE Distributed Control Systems. The STCI board is a compact terminal board for contact inputs, suitable for DIN-rail or flat mounting. It accommodates 24 contact inputs, receiving nominal excitation voltages of 24, 48, and 125 V DC from an external source. To guard against surges and high-frequency noise, the contact inputs include noise suppression features. The STCI is compatible with Mark VIe systems, where it interfaces with the PDIA I/O pack. This pack connects via a D-type connector and communicates with the controller over Ethernet. Note that it supports only simplex systems.

OPERATION:

The function and onboard signal conditioning of the STCI are similar to those of the TBCI, scaled for 24, 48, and 125 V DC excitation. The input excitation ranges are 16 to 32 V DC, 32 to 64 V DC, and 100 to 145 V DC, respectively, with a threshold voltage set at 50% of the excitation voltage. Contact sensing circuits limit input currents to 2.5 mA for the first 21 circuits and 10 mA for circuits 22 through 24. The 24 V DC supply is currently limited to 0.5 A using polymer positive temperature coefficient fuses, which are resettable. Each input is equipped with filters that minimize high-frequency noise and suppress surges at the signal entry point. The discrete input voltage signals are sent to the I/O processor, where they pass through optical isolators, are converted to digital signals, and then transferred to the controller.

INSTALLATION:

The STCI, along with a plastic insulator, is mounted on a sheet metal carrier that attaches to a DIN rail. Alternatively, the STCI and insulator can be mounted on a sheet metal assembly that bolts into a cabinet. The contact inputs connect directly to the terminal block, usually using #18 AWG wires. Shields should be grounded on a separate bracket.

  • STCIH1 has a permanently mounted terminal block with 52 terminals
  • STCIH2, STCIH4, and STCIH6 have a right-angle header accepting a range of commercially available pluggable terminal blocks, with a total of 52 terminals
