Functional Description

IS220PVIBH1B is a vibration monitor pack developed by GE. It is a part of Mark VIe control system. The Vibration Monitor pack serves as the intermediary electrical interface between either one or two I/O Ethernet networks and the TVBA vibration terminal board within the system architecture. Comprising essential components, the PVIB pack features a processor board, consistent across all Mark VIe distributed I/O packs, an acquisition board, and a daughterboard.

Functionality and Sensor Support

  • This pack employs channels 1 through 8 to capture vibration or proximity data from various sensor types, including Proximitors, accelerometers integrated with an output (limited to Channels 1-3), Velomitor, or seismics.
  • Channels 9 through 12 exclusively support Proximitors, while channel 13 accommodates either a Keyphasor signal-type or a proximity-type signal.

Input and Connectivity

  • Inputs to the pack are facilitated through dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors and a 3-pin power input, ensuring a stable and reliable connection interface.
  • PVIB pack is designed to support dual Ethernet networks for slower frame rates below 100 Hz. However, for frame rates set at 3.125, 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50, and 100 Hz, a single Ethernet network is supported.

Output and Connectivity to Terminal Board

  • Output from the pack is channeled through a DC-37 pin connector, directly interfacing with the associated terminal board connector, ensuring streamlined data transmission and compatibility.

Diagnostics and Communication

  • Diagnostic indicators in the form of LEDs provide visual feedback, aiding in identifying operational status and potential issues. Moreover, the PVIB pack facilitates local diagnostic serial communications via an infrared port, enabling specific diagnostic procedures and troubleshooting when required.
  • The comprehensive features and functionalities of the PVIB pack underscore its critical role in acquiring, processing, and transmitting vibration or proximity data from diverse sensor types, ensuring reliable and efficient operation within the system architecture.

Installation

  • Mounting the Terminal Board: Securely mount the desired terminal board, providing a stable and secure base for the subsequent installation steps.
  • Plugging in the I/O Pack(s) into the Terminal Board: For simplex operation, directly plug in one I/O pack. For Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) configuration, insert three PVIB I/O packs into the terminal board connectors.
  • Mechanical Securing of Packs: Utilize the threaded studs adjacent to the Ethernet ports to mechanically secure them. These studs are designed to slide into a mounting bracket specific to the terminal board type. Adjust the bracket's location carefully to avoid any right-angle force applied to the DC-37 pin connector between the pack and the terminal board. Typically, this adjustment is only necessary once throughout the product's lifespan.
  • Ethernet Connections: Plug in one or two Ethernet cables based on the system's configuration. The PVIB pack functions seamlessly through either port. In case of dual connections, it is a standard practice to connect ENET1 to the network associated with the R controller.
  • Power Application: Apply power to the pack by plugging in the connector located on the side of the pack. There's no need to insert this connector with the power removed from the cable, as the I/O pack possesses inherent soft-start capability. This feature effectively manages current inrush upon power application.
  • Configuration of the I/O Pack: Configure the I/O pack as necessary to meet specific system requirements and operational settings.
  • Verification of TVBA's N28 Power Supply Daughterboard: Verify that the TVBA's N28 power supply daughterboard is seated correctly in the TVBA connector, ensuring proper connectivity and power supply.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IS220PVIBH1B?
It is a vibration monitor pack developed by GE under the Mark VIe series.

What components constitute the PVIB's application-specific hardware?
The application-specific hardware comprises the analog filter acquisition board (BAFA) and the analog processing daughterboard.

What is the role of the analog filter acquisition board (BAFA)?
The BAFA serves as a crucial element in signal conditioning, centering, and amplifying signals. Its primary purpose is to enhance the analog-to-digital resolution of incoming signals for improved accuracy and reliability.

How are the channels utilized within the PVIB?
The first eight channels are versatile and can be employed for both vibration and position signal information, providing flexibility in sensor usage. Channels 9 through 12 are exclusively dedicated to supporting position-related data. Additionally, Channel 13 features specialized circuitry to accommodate pedestal or slot-type Keyphasor signals.
