FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:

IS220PTCCH1A, REV E is a Thermocouple Input Terminal Board manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the Mark VIe Series used in GE Distributed Control Systems. The PTCC provides the electrical interface between one or two I/O Ethernet networks and a thermocouple input terminal board. It includes a processor board common to all Mark VIe distributed I/O packs and a specific acquisition board for thermocouple input. The pack supports up to 12 thermocouple inputs, and with two packs, 24 inputs can be handled on the TBTCH1C terminal board. In a TMR configuration with the TBTCH1B terminal board, three packs are used with three cold junctions, but only 12 thermocouples are available. Input is through dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors and a three-pin power input. Output is via a DC-37 pin connector with the terminal board connector. Visual diagnostics are provided through indicator LEDs, and local diagnostics are accessible via an infrared port.

COMPATIBILITY:

The PTCCH1A is compatible with the thermocouple input terminal boards TBTC and STTC, but not with the DIN-rail mounted DTTC board. Supporting 24 thermocouple inputs on the TBTC requires two PTCC packs. Control mode indicates the number of I/O packs involved in a signal path.

  • Simplex uses one I/O pack with one or two network connections.
  • Dual uses two I/O packs with one or two network connections.
  • TMR uses three I/O packs with one network connection on each.

INSTALLATION:

  • Securely install the desired terminal board.
  • Directly connect the PTCC I/O pack to the terminal board connectors.
  • Mechanically secure the packs to the threaded studs next to the Ethernet ports. The studs slip into a mounting bracket designed for the terminal board type.
  • The bracket location should be changed such that there is no right-angle stress on the DC37 connector between the pack and the terminal board. The adjustment should be required just once during the product's lifetime.
  • Connect one or two Ethernet wires, depending on the system configuration. The pack will work on either port. If twin connections are employed, it is common practice to link ENET1 to the network connected with the R controller.
  • Plug in the connector on the pack's side to power it. It is not essential to turn off the power to the cable before connecting it because the I/O pack has an intrinsic soft-start feature that controls the current inrush on power applications.
  • Use the ToolboxST application to set up the I/O pack as needed.

OPERATION:

  • High-speed processor with RAM and flash memory
  • Two independent 10/100 Ethernet ports with connectors
  • Hardware watchdog timer and reset circuit
  • Local ambient temperature sensor
  • Infrared serial communication port
  • Status-indicating LEDs
  • Electronic ID and capability to read IDs from other boards
  • Extensive programmable logic supporting the acquisition board
  • Input power connector with soft start and current limiter
  • Local power supplies with sequencing and monitoring

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What is a Thermocouple Input Terminal Board used for?

It is designed to connect and process signals from thermocouple sensors, providing accurate temperature measurements for industrial control systems.

How many thermocouples can the board support?

The capacity depends on the configuration. For example, the TBTC board can support up to 24 thermocouples when paired with two PTCC packs.

What types of boards are compatible with the PTCCH1A?

The PTCCH1A is compatible with the TBTC and STTC boards but not with the DIN-rail-mounted DTTC board.

What are the input and output interfaces of the board?

Input is typically via RJ45 Ethernet connectors and a power input, while output is through a DC-37 pin connector for direct connection to terminal boards.
