Functional Description
IS220PPDAH1BC is a Power Distribution System Feedback Pack developed by GE. It is a part of Mark VIe control system. The PPDA pack is designed to interface with up to six distinct power distribution boards, each responsible for distributing power to components or subsystems within the larger system. This capability allows for centralized monitoring and control of multiple power distribution channels, streamlining system management.
Features
- Conditioning Board Feedback Signals: Upon receiving feedback signals from the connected power distribution boards, the pack processes and conditions these signals to ensure accuracy and reliability. This may involve filtering out noise, amplifying weak signals, or performing other signal conditioning operations to enhance the quality of the feedback data.
- Providing Dual Redundant Ethernet Interface to Controllers: The pack features a dual redundant Ethernet interface, enabling seamless communication with the system controllers. This redundancy ensures continuous data transmission and system availability, even in the event of network failures or disruptions, enhancing system resilience and reliability.
- Structured Feedback for Plug-and-Play Functionality: The feedback system is structured to facilitate plug-and-play functionality, simplifying the integration of power distribution boards into the larger system architecture. By utilizing electronic IDs, the PPDA pack can automatically identify and configure connected boards, eliminating the need for manual intervention and reducing setup time and complexity.
- Utilization of Electronic IDs for Board Identification: Electronic IDs embedded within the power distribution boards enable the PPDA pack to accurately identify and differentiate between connected boards. This information is crucial for configuring the pack to interact with each board correctly, ensuring precise monitoring and control of power distribution activities.
- Populating IONet Output for Correct Feedback: It leverages the information gathered from electronic IDs to populate the IONet output with accurate feedback data from the connected boards. This enables the controllers to access real-time information regarding the status and performance of the power distribution system, facilitating informed decision-making and proactive maintenance strategies.
Installation
- Securely Mount the Terminal Board: Begin by securely mounting the desired terminal board in the designated location. Ensure that it is properly aligned and fastened to provide a stable foundation for the pack installation.
- Plug in the I/O Pack(s): Depending on the system's redundancy configuration, plug in either one I/O pack for simplex operation or three I/O packs for TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy) into the terminal board connectors. Ensure that the packs are inserted firmly and correctly aligned.
- Mechanically Secure the Packs: Use the threaded studs located adjacent to the Ethernet ports on the packs to mechanically secure them. These studs should slide into a mounting bracket specific to the terminal board type. Adjust the bracket's location to prevent any right-angle force from being applied to the DC-62 pin connector between the pack and the terminal board. This adjustment is typically required only once during the product's lifespan.
- Plug in Ethernet Cable(s): Depending on the system configuration, plug in one or two Ethernet cables into the Ethernet ports on the pack(s). The pack is designed to operate over either port. If using dual connections, follow the standard practice of connecting ENET1 to the network associated with the R controller.
- Apply Power to the Pack: Apply power to the pack by plugging in the connector on the side of the pack. There's no need to insert this connector with the power removed from the cable, as the I/O pack features inherent soft-start capability that controls current inrush on power application.
- Configure the I/O Pack: Once powered up, configure the I/O pack as necessary to align with the system requirements and operational parameters. This may involve setting communication protocols, addressing schemes, or other configuration parameters.
- Connect Ribbon Cables for Data Exchange: Finally, connect ribbon cables from connector J2 on JPDS or JPDM to daisy chain other core boards, facilitating the exchange of information with the PPDA. This ensures seamless integration and data flow within the system architecture, enabling comprehensive monitoring and control capabilities.
Diagnostics
- Power-Up Self-Test: At startup, the PPDA performs a comprehensive self-test that includes checks of RAM, Flash memory, Ethernet ports, and Most of the processor board hardware
Power Supply Monitoring: The internal power supplies are continuously monitored to verify correct operation and detect any faults in real time.
- Hardware ID Verification: PPDA checks the electronic ID information from the terminal board, acquisition card, and processor card. This step ensures that the hardware components match the expected configuration. It also verifies that the application code loaded from flash memory is correct and compatible with the hardware set.
- Analog Input Hardware Check: The analog input hardware is tested using precision reference voltages during each scan cycle. The measured values are compared to expected values, providing a check on the health of the A/D (analog-to-digital) converter circuits.
- Diagnostic Details and Reset: Detailed diagnostic information can be accessed via the ToolboxST application. Diagnostic signals are latched (held in a fault state) until the issue is resolved, after which they can be reset using the RESET_DIA signal once the system returns to normal.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is IS220PPDAH1BC?
It is a Power Distribution System Feedback Pack developed by GE under the Mark VIe series.
What does the check of electronic ID information entail?
The system verifies electronic ID information from the terminal board, acquisition card, and processor card to confirm hardware compatibility. It also checks if the application code loaded from flash memory matches the hardware set, ensuring correct operation.
How does the analog input hardware ensure accuracy?
Precision reference voltages are provided in each scan, and the measured values are compared against expected values. This comparison helps confirm the health of the analog-to-digital converter (A/D converter) circuits, ensuring accurate measurement data.
How are diagnostic signals managed?
Diagnostic signals are individually latched, meaning they are captured and held in a stable state for analysis. These signals are reset using the RESET DIA signal once they return to a healthy state, providing a clear indication of system status and stability.
