Functional Description

IS220PDOAH1A, REV D is a Discrete Output Module revision G version manufactured by General Electrics. It is a part of the Mark VIe control system. It is a specialized I/O component used to interface between Ethernet networks and a discrete output terminal board in Mark VIe distributed control systems. The pack includes a processor board that is standard across all Mark VIe distributed I/O packs and a dedicated acquisition board tailored for discrete output functions.

Features

  • The pack can control up to 12 relays, allowing it to manage multiple discrete outputs effectively. The type of relay used depends on the associated terminal board:
  • Available when using TRLYH1B, C, D, and F terminal boards.
  • Used with the TRLYH1E terminal board for more durable and reliable switching in high-speed applications.
  • Dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors enable the PDOA pack to communicate over one or two I/O Ethernet networks, providing flexibility and redundancy in network connections.
  • A three-pin power input supplies power to the PDOA pack, ensuring it can maintain relay control and communication functions.
  • Outputs are transmitted through a DC-37 pin connector, which directly connects to the terminal board. This connector allows for a straightforward and reliable physical connection to the discrete output terminal board.
  • It is equipped with visual diagnostic LEDs that provide real-time feedback on the operational status of the pack and each relay output. This feature aids in quick troubleshooting and monitoring, ensuring system performance and reliability.
  • The PDOA pack also accepts feedback specific to the terminal board in use, allowing the system to verify output states and monitor relay status. This feedback loop enhances control precision and ensures that the outputs are responding as expected, aligning with the overall control requirements of the Mark VIe system.

Installation

  • Mount the Terminal Board: Begin by securely mounting the designated terminal board on a stable surface or rack to ensure a solid foundation for the PDOA pack.
Attach the Pack to the Terminal Board: Directly plug the PDOA I/O pack into the terminal board connectors, ensuring a secure fit for optimal communication and power
  • transfer between the pack and terminal board.
  • Mechanically Secure the Pack: Fasten the PDOA pack using the threaded studs located next to the Ethernet ports. These studs slide into a specially designed mounting bracket for the terminal board. Adjust the bracket to avoid any right-angle force being applied to the DC-37 connector, which connects the pack to the terminal board. This adjustment is typically needed only once in the product's lifetime.
  • Simplex Terminal Boards: These have a single DC-37 connector for the PDOA pack.
  • TMR-Capable Terminal Boards: These boards have four DC-37 connectors, one for simplex applications and three for TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) applications. The PDOA pack is designed to support all connection types.
  • Connect Ethernet Cables: Depending on the system configuration, plug in one or two Ethernet cables. The pack will operate with either port, but if dual connections are used, it is recommended to connect ENET1 to the network associated with the R controller for consistency and redundancy.
  • Apply Power to the Pack: Connect the power cable to the pack’s side connector to supply power. There is no need to disconnect power from the cable before inserting it into the PDOA pack because the pack is equipped with a soft-start capability. This feature manages current inrush during power application, protecting the system from power surges.
  • Configure the I/O Pack Using ToolboxST: Launch the ToolboxST application to configure the PDOA pack settings as required for your system's specific needs.
Refer to the Auto-Reconfiguration section if the pack needs to automatically adapt to configuration changes, ensuring seamless integration and operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IS220PDOAH1A, REV D?
It is a Discrete Output Module revision G version manufactured by General Electric.

What do the different control modes mean?
In Simplex mode, one I/O pack is used with either one or two network connections. Dual mode uses two I/O packs with either one or two network connections for redundancy. This mode is not supported for the PDOAH1A.TMR mode uses three I/O packs, each with a single network connection, offering the highest level of redundancy for critical applications.

Can I use PDOAH1A in DIN-rail installations?
No, the PDOAH1A pack is incompatible with DIN-rail mounted DRLY terminal boards and is designed to work with specific TRLY and SRLY terminal boards only.

Does Simplex mode support dual network connections?
Yes, in Simplex mode, the PDOAH1A can operate with either one or two network connections, allowing flexibility based on network configuration needs.
