Functional Description

IS220PDIOH1B , REV B is a Turbine Discrete Input/Output Module developed by GE. It is a part of Mark VIe control system. It is designed to facilitate seamless communication between one or two I/O Ethernet networks and a discrete input/output terminal board. This module consists of a processor board, common to all Mark VIe distributed I/O packs, and an acquisition board, specifically designed for discrete input/output functions.

Features

The PDIO pack acts as a bridge between the Mark VIe control system and various discrete I/O devices. It is designed to process both input and output signals for turbine control applications. The module consists of two main components:

  • Processor Board – A common component used across all Mark VIe distributed I/O packs.
  • Acquisition Board – A specialized board dedicated to discrete input/output operations.

The PDIO pack supports:

  • Up to 24 contact inputs, ensuring robust signal reception.
  • Control of up to 12 relay outputs for managing external systems.
  • Terminal board-specific feedback signals to ensure accurate monitoring and control.
  • The voltage capability of the PDIO is determined by the associated terminal board, making it adaptable to different configurations.

Connectivity and Diagnostic Features

The PDIO pack is equipped with multiple connectivity options and diagnostic tools to enhance performance and ease of troubleshooting. Key features include:

  • Dual RJ45 Ethernet Ports – Allowing for single or redundant network connections for improved reliability.
  • Three-Pin Power Input – Providing a stable power supply to the module.
  • DC-62 Connector – Ensuring seamless discrete signal input/output integration with the terminal board.
  • LED Indicators – Offering visual diagnostics for quick status identification and issue resolution.

Installation Process

  • Mounting the Terminal Board: Before installing the PDIO pack, the appropriate terminal board must be securely mounted in its designated location.
  • Connecting the PDIO Pack: Once the terminal board is in place, the PDIO pack is directly plugged into the terminal board connectors to establish the electrical interface.
  • Securing the PDIO Pack: To ensure stability the threaded studs adjacent to the Ethernet ports must be tightened. A mounting bracket should be adjusted to prevent excessive force on the DC-62 connector. The PDIO pack is compatible with different terminal board configurations-
    • Simplex Terminal Boards – Feature a single DC-62 pin connector.
    • TMR-Capable Terminal Boards – Include three DC-62 pin connectors for Simplex, Dual, or Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) operation.
  • Ethernet Connectivity: Connect one or two Ethernet cables as per the system configuration. If using dual connections, it is recommended to link ENET1 to the R controller network.
  • Powering the Module: Plug in the power connector on the side of the module. The PDIO pack features a soft-start mechanism, which regulates power inrush, allowing for safe and stable operation without needing to pre-remove power.
  • Configuration using ToolboxST: After installation, the ToolboxST application is used to configure the PDIO pack, ensuring proper integration with the Mark VIe system.
