Functional Description

3500/26 is a Condition Monitoring Module developed by Bently Nevada. It is a part of 3500 Bently Nevada Series. This module performs continuous online monitoring of machinery, providing essential protection and ensuring the reliability of rotating equipment, often in industrial and power generation applications. Designed with the requirements of the American Petroleum Institute's API 670 standard, the 3500/26 is ideal for machinery protection systems, delivering accurate and reliable monitoring and alarming to prevent equipment failures.

Features

  • The 3500 Series is built to provide continuous, real-time monitoring of critical machinery parameters, offering early detection of mechanical faults or performance degradation. This proactive approach allows for timely maintenance or corrective actions to be taken, avoiding unplanned downtime and costly repairs.
  • Designed to meet the stringent requirements of the API 670, which governs machinery protection systems in industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, and power generation. This compliance ensures that the module is capable of safeguarding critical rotating equipment and preventing catastrophic failures.

Instrument Rack

  • The 3500 Instrument Rack is the physical framework used to house the monitoring modules and integrate them into the broader machinery protection system. The rack is available in several mounting options to fit different installation scenarios 19" EIA Rail-Mount, Panel-Cutout-Mount, Bulkhead-Mount.
  • These configurations allow for flexible and efficient installation, whether in control rooms, machinery rooms, or in external environments.
  • Rack Design and Slot Configuration:
    • Power Supplies: Slots reserved for two power supply modules (ensuring reliable and redundant power to the system).
    • TDI (Transducer Interface) Module: Located in the left-most position, dedicated exclusively to this module.
    • Monitoring and Support Modules: The remaining 14 slots can accommodate various modules including monitors, displays, relay modules, Keyphasor modules (used for rotational position sensing), and communication gateway modules.
    • The system is modular, with all components plugged into the rack’s backplane. This modularity allows for flexibility in configuration, ensuring that the system can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the installation.
  • Mini Rack
    • Mini Rack Width: 12 inches instead of the standard 19 inches, allowing for more compact installations.
    • Monitor Slots: 7 available slots for monitoring modules (compared to the 14 in the standard rack).
    • Module Placement: The left-most slots are reserved for the Power Supply and TDI Module.
    • The mini rack is designed for installations where space is limited but the monitoring capabilities of the 3500 Series are still required. It can be mounted in a panel cutout or, using an optional adapter plate, on 19” EIA mounting rails. Bulkhead mounting is not available for the mini rack.

Benefits

  • The modular design of the system allows it to be scaled for small to large installations, offering flexibility in terms of the number of sensors and monitoring points.
  • With built-in redundancy, ensures continuous protection, even if a module or component fails, guaranteeing uninterrupted monitoring.
  • The system's modular architecture allows for easy replacements and upgrades, minimizing system downtime during maintenance or servicing.
  • The system provides detailed diagnostics, offering valuable insights into the condition of machinery and enabling operators to make informed decisions about maintenance or repair.
  • Meeting the API 670 standard ensures that the system adheres to the best practices for machinery protection, providing peace of mind in demanding industrial environments.
